Natural Pearl: Pearls form naturally in live oysters; today, the vast majority of pearls cultured???that is, the lustrous gems are grown on pearl farms around the world. To replicate what happens in nature, a foreign object is inserted into the oysters, a process that produces a variety of freshwater and saltwater pearls, which can be perfectly round in shape, coin-like, or deliberately misshapen (i.e. keshi pearls and any baroque pearls).
